<h2>Fighting for the Future of Allegheny County</h2>In the borough of Dravosburg, there is a headstone marking the final resting place of Robert E. Thomas. He was born in Wales and emigrated to the United States before the Civil War, like so many others, in search of a better life. He worked, married, raised a family of 10 kids, died, and was buried in the Monongahela Valley of Allegheny County in 1877.He was my great-great-great-grandfather and since his courageous decision to leave his native country to create a new home here in Southwestern Pennsylvania, my family has been fortunate to grow and prosper in Allegheny County for over 160 years. Subsequent generations have grown up with the same optimism of a Welsh immigrant since he originally immigrated here - believing that Allegheny County offers a chance for success, stability, and a better life for their children. Many of my family found the American Dream here, which is why Robert Thomas's gravesite is less than 3 miles away from my family's front door today, more than a century and a half later.I decided to enter public service because I wanted to make sure that families like mine and yours have the same opportunities for a good life here in Allegheny County. I was blessed to grow up here and start a family with my wife Molly and our kids - Nico, Oliver, and Gwen - surrounded by my extended family tree because there was opportunity for those willing to work hard. Fighting for good schools, safe communities, and the chance for every single Pennsylvanian to create a great life is my mission while serving in the Pennsylvania General Assembly.During my time in the state House and state Senate, I've been a champion for standing up for the needs of working families while making sure Allegheny County gets our fair share of state resources for local parks, job creation, economic development, first responders, senior citizens, and more. My local office cuts through the red tape to make government more accessible for everyone so that you can get the help and the benefits you deserve.I'm proud to be the Pennsylvania Senator for 37 communities in Allegheny County's East Hills, South Hills, and Mon Valley. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEMarch 4, 2024Allegheny County, PA – Following the announcement this afternoon by the Municipality of Monroeville that the Monroeville Convention Center will remain in operation, state Rep. Nick Pisciottano released the following statement:&nbsp;I want to commend the hard work of local, county, and state officials who worked diligently to ensure that Monroeville retains its convention center, which attracts thousands of visitors to Allegheny County every year and drives millions of dollars in economic development in our region. Since the announcement on February 12 that the Monroeville Convention Center would close, there has rightly been concern how that would impact Monroville and the surrounding communities.In my capacity as the chair of the Allegheny County House Delegation, I have been in contact with the involved officials to support their efforts in preserving the Monroeville Convention Center. Through the diligent efforts of Monroeville Mayor Nick Gresock, the Monroeville Council, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, county executive Sara Innamorato, state Rep. Brandon Markosek, state Sen. Jay Costa, state Sen. Jim Brewster, County Councilwoman Michelle Nacarrati-Chapkis, Visit Monroeville, and others an agreement has been worked out to continue the operation of the Monroeville Convention Center. I also extend my appreciation to those at Oxford Development who worked with the community to find a solution.This process is an example of how leaders should lead in our region: rather than making public statements to attribute blame, our elected officials rolled up their sleeves and collaborated to address the issue. Nick's family has had the opportunity to succeed here in Allegheny County for over 160 years and he feels strongly that the next generation should have access to the same success as prior generations, but we need the local economy to thrive so that our children can stay here to raise their families with good-paying jobs.<ul><li>Growing our local economy to create good paying jobs here in our corner of Allegheny County has been a top priority since Nick's first election to the state House. He has worked with local small businesses, the Chamber of Commerce, building trades unions, state agencies, and other development stakeholders to grow our economy and create jobs. Nick has hosted the Secretary of the Department of Economic and Community Development for a small business tour, participated in local Chamber of commerce legislative panels, highlighted local businesses and more to use his position to support our local economy.</li><li>Driving economic development in our community is key to ensure that future generations have the opportunity to succeed here. After years of coordination during which Nick has been heavily involved, we finally see progress on redeveloping Century 3 Mall. In his role as Allegheny County Delegation Chair, he was active in preserving the Monroeville Convention Center as an economic driver for our region. Nick's relationships in Harrisburg and throughout Allegheny County help him bring back resources and investments to our communities.</li><li>Ensuring the economy works for everyone and is fair, Nick has championed first-of-its-kind legislation to fight back against attacks on your personal finances. His "Pay the Price You See" bill cracks down on the fees charged during online purchases for event tickets, vacation rentals, and more so that you don't get ripped off. Nick has also championed the Pennsylvania Open Markets Act which would protect small businesses, workers, and consumers by giving the Attorney General the tools needed to protect Pennsylvanians and bring back billions in restitution from companies that break the law.</li><li>Every Pennsylvanian at some point will require medical treatment so ensuring affordable and accessible healthcare is an important part of creating economic opportunity. Too often a surprise medical bill for something as small as a broken bone can bankrupt families overnight. Nick sponsored the Pennsylvania Medical Debt Repayment Program to help deal with the crushing burden of medical debts. He has also supported legislation to triple the Child Care Tax Credit, address the home health care workforce to ensure we have more available workers to help with medical needs, the Patient Safety Act to secure safe staffing in hospitals, as well as bills that expand rural healthcare, telemedicine, dental coverage, and more.</li><li>Investing in our local infrastructure is imperative to growing our economy. Of course we need to invest in roads and bridges, but also sewer infrastructure, river access, internet service, and water treatment operations. The Mon-Fayette Expressway will connect the Mon Valley to the broader regional transportation network, creating economic growth. During his time in Harrisburg, Nick has worked with all the involved parties to ensure that our local infrastructure is fully funded with maintenance completed on time and upgrades are completed ahead of schedule.</li><li>As a board member of Pittsburgh Regional Transit, Nick advocated for increased funding from the state budget to expand public transit in underserved parts of Allegheny County.</li></ul>As your next state Senator, Nick will continue to champion investments in our local economy to grow the available jobs and ensure that economic opportunities are available for the next generation.

We need economic growth in our region that creates jobs and promises opportunity for the next generation to live and work here. Investments in critical infrastructure, economic development, reliable public transit, and fair economic treatment is crucial for our future success.

Economic Opportunity

Nick is an ardent protector of your fundamental freedoms in Harrisburg and will continue to fight for your rights in the state Senate.<ul><li>Nick will protect women's rights and access to reproductive healthcare to ensure that state government stays out of your private medical decisions. He is also a founding member of the Pennsylvania Black Maternal Health Caucus to focus on the maternal mortality and morbidity issues which are far too common for women across Pennsylvania. Nick has voted many times for parts of the Momnibus bill package sending several measures to protect mothers to the Senate.</li><li>Every American adult has the fundamental right to vote and Nick believes that voting should to be convenient, accessible, and secure. In Harrisburg, he has voted to make improvements to our election system that adhere to those three goals so that every Pennsylvanian can participate in our Republic including expanding opportunities to vote and helping counties count votes faster on Election Day.</li><li>Nick has been one of the foremost advocates for workers' rights during his time in Harrisburg. As an active member of the House Labor &amp; Industry committee, Nick has passed a number of significant pro-worker bills through the House of Representatives including protections for hotel workers, direct deposit for workers compensation, and an amendment to the constitution that protects workers' rights. He has also worked to ensure that the workers that he represents have easy access to government services like workers compensation and unemployment compensation, safe workplaces, employment opportunities, and more. Nick also serves as the Chair of the Policy Committee's Subcommittee on Labor, Energy, and Development which has hosted public hearings across Pennsylvania on labor rights and protections.</li></ul>As a state Senator, Nick will continue to fight to protect your rights from those in Harrisburg who seek to deprive you of your fundamental freedoms.

We need to stand up to defend fundamental rights that are too often under attack in Harrisburg. Protecting the right to vote in free and fair elections, guaranteeing healthcare and reproductive rights, and expanding workers' rights are all critical to the future of Pennsylvania.
