Accomplishments & Priorities

Nick's family has had the opportunity to succeed here in Allegheny County for over 160 years and he feels strongly that the next generation should have access to the same success as prior generations, but we need the local economy to thrive so that our children can stay here to raise their families with good-paying jobs.

• Growing our local economy to create good paying jobs here in our corner of Allegheny County has been a top priority since Nick's first election to the state House. He has worked with local small businesses, the Chamber of Commerce, building trades unions, state agencies, and other development stakeholders to grow our economy and create jobs. Nick has hosted the Secretary of the Department of Economic and Community Development for a small business tour, participated in local Chamber of commerce legislative panels, highlighted local businesses and more to use his position to support our local economy.

• Driving economic development in our community is key to ensure that future generations have the opportunity to succeed here. After years of coordination during which Nick has been heavily involved, we finally see progress on redeveloping Century 3 Mall. In his role as Allegheny County Delegation Chair, he was active in preserving the Monroeville Convention Center as an economic driver for our region. Nick's relationships in Harrisburg and throughout Allegheny County help him bring back resources and investments to our communities.

• Ensuring the economy works for everyone and is fair, Nick has championed first-of-its-kind legislation to fight back against attacks on your personal finances. His "Pay the Price You See" bill cracks down on the fees charged during online purchases for event tickets, vacation rentals, and more so that you don't get ripped off. Nick has also championed the Pennsylvania Open Markets Act which would protect small businesses, workers, and consumers by giving the Attorney General the tools needed to protect Pennsylvanians and bring back billions in restitution from companies that break the law.

• Every Pennsylvanian at some point will require medical treatment so ensuring affordable and accessible healthcare is an important part of creating economic opportunity. Too often a surprise medical bill for something as small as a broken bone can bankrupt families overnight. Nick sponsored the Pennsylvania Medical Debt Repayment Program to help deal with the crushing burden of medical debts. He has also supported legislation to triple the Child Care Tax Credit, address the home health care workforce to ensure we have more available workers to help with medical needs, the Patient Safety Act to secure safe staffing in hospitals, as well as bills that expand rural healthcare, telemedicine, dental coverage, and more.

• Investing in our local infrastructure is imperative to growing our economy. Of course we need to invest in roads and bridges, but also sewer infrastructure, river access, internet service, and water treatment operations. The Mon-Fayette Expressway will connect the Mon Valley to the broader regional transportation network, creating economic growth. During his time in Harrisburg, Nick has worked with all the involved parties to ensure that our local infrastructure is fully funded with maintenance completed on time and upgrades are completed ahead of schedule.

• As a board member of Pittsburgh Regional Transit, Nick advocated for increased funding from the state budget to expand public transit in underserved parts of Allegheny County.

As your next state Senator, Nick will continue to champion investments in our local economy to grow the available jobs and ensure that economic opportunities are available for the next generation.
